Hi everyone,

just a short post to tell you that I won’t be online for a while. I don’t know for how long. It’s until I am able to sit in the computer chair again, or use my laptop.
I am going to the hospital on Thursday, June 10th. I will be operated on in the afternoon of that day and have to stay in hospital for a few days. I don’t know exactly when I can go home yet.
I hope you will continue to visit my blog, to see if I’m back. I would love that.
Have a great day and I hope to talk to you all soon !!!

Hi everyone,
it was a very sunny day today and that made it the perfect day to potter around in the garden. Here are some pictures I took today (if you click on the pictures you get them enlarged):

A purple-blue iris in the front garden, this flower opened today.

The verbascum has one little flower too, soon it will be covered in flowers.

A little piece of the front garden with saponaria, campanula, day lilly, rose, geranium and digitalis, not all of it in flower yet.

The first bloom of the oriental poppy opened, isn’t it precious, so fragile !!

The back garden with a very large purple columbine.

Here are the flowers up close.

I hope you all had a lovely day, maybe in the garden too ??

Hi everyone,

the weather is starting to change. It is getting slightly warmer. This is great after all those weeks of cold weather. Everyone just wants to warm their bones ; )
Walking through my little garden I get quite happy. My Cottage Rose has some pretty buds and one is very close to really opening up. Here it is:

The day before yesterday I told you, I had planted some Summer bedding. Here’s some of it, lobelia and begonia. In between the sticks is a lantana, which I planted for the butterflies:

Around the corner of the back door here’s my little herb collection. There will be more, but I’m waiting for warmer weather. There’s chives, lemmon balm, marjoram and a very old rose which has wonderful colours when it blooms. It is called Rosa Mundi:

I hope you’ll all have a wonderful weekend, with lots of sunshine.

The Spring Garden May 13th 2010

Hi everyone,
Today we are having a quiet day. I only had to make something to have with tea in the evening. Everything had been eaten already.
I only had 2 eggs left and milk (my daughter’s milk without lactose), a bit of flour ( 250 gram), white and light brown sugar (175 gram), vanilla sugar, some salt, some ginger syrop and a tea spoon of mixed spices. With this I made this cake. It’s a variation of a spice cake I make. The spice cake is with milk and brown sugar, so without the eggs.
This time, after putting in the eggs, I put in enough milk to make the batter right (the thickness).
In the oven for 60 minutes on 175 degrees Celsius and this is what I got:
It looks great, it smells great and now we have to wait until this evening to try it and know if it tastes great too ; )
An update on the Spring Garden:

My blue anemones. They have such a beautiful vibrant blue colour. I can’t catch it with my camera.

The clematis called Pixie is flowering it’s little heart out.

Lathyrus plants, which my mom gave to me on Mother’s Day, thank you very much mom ; )
They are white with purple-red freggles ( Whiltshire ripple), burgundy coloured ( Beaujolais), and blue ( Albutt blue). I hope they will grow. I put them in a large pot, so they can’t be torn by cats or other ; )

My new clematis Nelly Moser in the front garden. This is still with the old framwork, but on Mother’s Day I was given a new arch and it’s beautiful. The clematis has a new arch to hold on to now.

My primula vulgaris, well not so common, as you can see, there’s a little red niece or nephew in with the yellow common primula ; )
Well that is it from the garden for now.
Have a wonderful day everyone.

Don’t mind the post I wrote yesterday, I removed it ; ) I will try to continue, only maybe not as frequent.
I couldn’t stay away anyhow. I am totally addicted to blogging. You just have to take it as it comes now. Maybe each day, maybe once a week, or maybe there will be longer breaks in between the posts we will just have to wait and see. The operation is getting nearer and I’m very anxious. You didn’t notice did you ?????

Well, I will keep you all posted. Have a wonderful day my friends !

Hey everyone,
I am so very happy. A week or so ago I found buds in my peony. We planted it three years ago, nearly four, and last year it didn’t do much, just like the years before that. I was almost ready to remove it, but gave it another year. Patience is a virtue, that is the lesson that can be learned. Good things come to those who wait, another great one. Here is the result of waiting:

Little buds in the peony.

The buds are getting bigger.

A lovely bud with a visitor on the leave. I wish I had a better camera, but this is as good as it gets I’m afraid.
I am so very glad that I didn’t go through with my plan to remove this plant. I can hardly wait to see them bloom. I forgot which colour they will be. I think they were dark red. It will be a surprise.

Tomorrow we will go to my parents, for Mother’s day.
My mom just told me , on the phone, she has bought 3 lathyrus plants for me. A white and blue one, a dark red one and a salmon pink one. I think I will put them in a large pot with sticks, so they can’t be torn from the fence, by cats or other.

When I have planted them I will take a picture ; )
Have a wonderful day everyone and enjoy your Mother’s Day Weekend !!

Hi everyone,
the last couple of days have been very warm here. Time for a little overview picture of our little back garden:

Another one, can you see the tulips ??

Here are my knitting projects. I just love those homemade kitchen cloths. I use them all the time and they stay great in the washing machine.

I have just finished an apple green one and am now working on a pink one. I use the same pattern, as it is very strong that way.
Here’s the pattern up close and personal :

Bliss….. Sunshine, warm weather and my crafts basket next to my garden chair. I love it !!!
I hope you’ll have a great beginning of the weekend.

Here is a souvenir that our daughter brought back for me from Venice, Italy. It is a beautiful handmade little carnaval masque. I love it, it is so precious !! It has got little bells on it too ; )
Have a fantastic weekend everyone.

Hi everyone,
tonight my husband and I are alone. That hasn’t happened for a long time.
Our daughter is still in Venice, Italy. She will be coming home tomorrow.
I hope she had a lovely time. Our son is staying with friends. He plays the electric guitar and has to practice with his drummer and basist. The are going to play at a 25th wedding anniversary of the parents of the drummer. They are looking forward to it.
My husband and I had a lovely pizza and a delicious Italian salad with pesto dressing for dinner and pear sorbet ice cream for desert.
Tonight we are going to watch Angels and demons with Tom Hanks. I’m looking forward to that.
I hope you will all have a great beginning of the weekend. It will be nice and warm in The Netherlands, so that is something else to look forward to.

Hey everyone,

I have been busy this morning. Doing the laundry, making a bread and baking cookies.
I made the bread and the cookies for my daughter, because she might be lactose intollerant. The final test has to find out if she is, but she reacts great to lactose free food, so it will be very strange when she doesn’t have a lactose intollerance.
The cookies are the straight forward cookies, I only spiced them up with special cookie spices we use here in The Netherlands and I used ground ginger, cinnamon and kardemom too. She tried a little one and they are very delicious she says, so that’s great !!
She has enough cookies to last more then a week, so I have to bake her new cookies next week.

She went to the supermarket this morning with a friend and got something that wasn’t lactose free and you can see it,
Her belly bloats when she eats food with lactose and I thought that I could see that her belly was bloated when she came home. The story she told me, proved that I was right. I was angry, because we try to keep her on a diet and then she goes and spoils it. I can understand she wants to do the things others do too, but she has to learn what is good for her. That might take a lot of patience though ; )

Have a wonderful day !!
