Hello girls !!
January is nearly gone and February is almost here, the month of daffodils and Valentine’s Day. The days are getting longer, which is great. This morning there was sunshine. That was the first time since days. It has been grey for a long time. The bulbs are starting to surface and if the cat leaves them alone, they will turn into lovely tulips, crocusses, hyacinths and daffodils.

I can hardly wait, but as I said, my cat thinks the backgarden is a litter box. I have to find out what I can do about that, so if anyone has a good tip, which is cat friendly, I would love to hear it. I don’t have that problem as much in Summer, because the earth is covered in plants and flowers then. He can’t get in between them, but now the soil is bare, he just keeps on doing it.

Here’s a picture of the daffodils last year.

We are having a wonderful relaxed weekend. Ever since I stopped working and became a fulltime homemaker again, I have been feeling much better, more relaxed. When I was still working, I had to work strange times and in the weekends and was very stressed to get things done in time. Now I have all the time in the world, accept for the times we have meetings, but that doesn’t happen very much any more either. I have all the time to bake, clean house to DIY chores etc.

We are trying to life as frugal as possible. I try to spend less money on groceries and make more things myself. It’s a bit more time, but it tastes better and it’s much less expensive.

I have just made an apple cake for the evenings. Here in The Netherlands we eat cake etc. with coffee or tea and not as a dessert. I could buy large filled cookies for little money, so we are set for the evenings ; ) I will also bake again this week.

Hi everyone,
This week I will have to bake again. We had my parents over yesterday and it was a lovely afternoon, but now my cakes are nearly gone, so I will have to make something new to eat with the tea in the evening.
Today I will have to clean upstairs. Downstairs is already done for now ; )
We have vinyl flooring upstairs, so cleaning there isn’t a very big problem anymore, I’m so glad.
This past weekend we have been to a town we used to live, for a party and we made it a day out, so we had a wonderful time, walking through the town, drinking coffee, seeing a movie end eating out. I ended up 25 dollars above the budget I had in mind, but we wanted to see the movie anyway, so I don’t have to pay this another time. I will be more careful next time though and I will try not to buy anything this week, just to stay in budget.
Have a wonderful new weeek everyone !!

Hi everyone,

this Wednesday will be my last evening at work. I have decided not to take the insecure 6 months contract. I told my boss and the only thing he could say was, I can only offer you a 6 month contract. That only made me more certain about the decision I have made. I don’t think that’s the way to treat people.

My husband and I have decided that we will try to make do with what we have.
I have started baking again. I made applesauce cakes. Pictures will follow later ; )

Now I will have more time to do the housework and more time for husband and kids. My daughter told me last weekend that she loves it when I’m at home. There’s no better reason to stop working then that !!

Here is the picture I promissed:

It tasted great, I love it !!

Have a great day everyone !!!

Hi everyone,

first of all, a bit late, happy 2010 !!!
I hope it will bring all that you long for and especially a lot of health.

I have been working a lot lately. I was at work til 9.00 PM on new years eve. On January 1st I had to work too and the 2nd and 3rd and 5th of January. I had worked the 28th of December and the 29th too. I am finally beginning to relax again. I was so very tired. This was just too much for me.
After one year of work ( I had a year contract) I was told that they could only give me a 6 month contract with no security of a following contract whatsoever. I can tell you I haven’t signed the new contract yet.
Next week they are going to hear some news about how many people have to go and where the money has to be spent. If they can’t give me more security, I have decided to stop working. I will try to live frugally and do lots of things myself.
Because I had to work so hard, I didn’t see my family in the evenings for days. I am a real family person and a real mom if you know what I mean and this just takes so much energy out of me. The fact that I’m so tired when I come home from work is something that reflects on family life too.

Since November my husband is on total disability. We have financial security and if we are frugal we will be able to make it work on one salary.

Wow, I hope I haven’t bored you all to tears with this ; )
I will let you know how it works out !!

A picture update:

Here’s a sweater I made with wool I got for free. Someone in the street wanted to throw it away.

This is the clasp that is on it. It’s made of two little foxes heads. I love it.

Some pictures of the bird feeding place. I can watch this while sitting in my livingroom on my couch.

This bird is a regular guest. He comes by every day. I recognize him, because he has white feathers on his wings and breast.

A frosty morning last week.

Have a wonderful day everyone !

Just a quick post. My daughter has been ill. She has an abces in her mouth and cheek. She’s on antibiotics now and feeling a lot better. I was pretty scared when she was so white and her face was so swolen. The swelling is getting better now though. Her face is nearly back to normal again. There’s only still  a little swelling in her mouth.

We are getting ready for the festive season here now. We have decorated the tree, the little stable is on it’s place again and the lights in the frontgarden are on in the evening. It looks great !!!

I hope you are all OK too. Have a great day.

Hi everyone,

I had a lovely dinner yesterday evening in the restaurant above.
My parents celebrated their birthdays. My mom has just turned 74 and my dad will celebrate his 80th birthday on December 2nd. They decided to have a lovely dinnerparty with family and friends.

It was a great evening and the food was wonderful. I was there together with my husband, my daughter and my son and his girlfriend.
We had a marvelous time.
You could chose between fish or meat and the desert was a choise between berry yoghurt icecream and stroopwafel bavarois, that is a bavarois made with a kind of cookie we eat here in the Netherlands which are two wafles with syrup in between. It was very delicious.

There was a garlic soup, which was very delicious and a kind of fishfilet with salad and all kinds of vegetables, french fries and potatoe wedges.

We had a wonderful time, thanks again mom and dad !!!!!
My mom reads my blog too ; )

Now I have to go on a birthday visit again this afternoon. One of my neighbours is celebrating her birthday too.

My knitted sweater was finished in time and I wore it with my black skirt and black laced boots.
Now I’m working on a bolero, a short little vest. I just bought a little clasp to close the vest. It looks a little bit Celtic. I love that !!
ms_0020_7_mThis is it. It has one little hook. I just love it !!

I hope you’ll have a wonderful day.

Hey everyone,

We have been quite busy in our home. We had to take apart a lot of furniture for the vinyl flooring, which is in two rooms already since yesterday. We had to put all the things back into place again too.

I have been to the shops and found these very cute Christmas birdies. I love the red robin. I have put them away, but I can’t wait to display them come Christmas time.
Here they are :

Finally I got my very first Victoria magazine.
Our bookshop is able to order it now.  I love it !
I got the November / December issue and it is filled with goodness. I haven’t finished reading it yet, but the things I have read uptil now are so great !!

I love this part about an old Inn. The Hight tea they serve there, looks absolutely scrumptious.

Here’s what we’ve been up to the last couple of days. This is our bedroom  with the new vinyl flooring. I love it and I think it makes the wooden furniture look even better !! The colour on the wall is new too. You can’t see it very good, but the colour is called “Dance” and it’s a very pale pink.
Tomorrow the other two bedrooms and the landing will be done, so after that the whole first floor will be as good as new ; )

Have a great day everyone.

Hey everyone,

it has been a cold and wet day here. A day on which you would have normally wanted to stay in bed.

It has been a fruitful day here nevertheless. My husband has cleaned up the attick, or is in the proces of cleaning up the attick. Lots of old things have been brought away and it’s getting more and more organized.

A little bedroom which isn’t in use at the moment was used as a dumping place for my husband’s computer stuff. He is cleaning that up as I write too, yessss !!!!

Now I’m cooking dinner, a cabbage, grounded beef, potato,  oven dish, which we all love very much !!

Our son is staying at a friend’s house, so my daughter feels like an only child at the moment. She loves to be spouiled though ; )

I finish with a picture of a cabinet we have with on top of it a lovely statue of Mother Mary, which I got as a present for Mothers Day years ago, some leftover candy corn in a jar, which a friend from The States sent me ( we can’t buy candy corn here) and a cutting from my lemon pelargonium.

Have a wonderful day everyone !!

Hey everyone,

Today we had a lazy afternoon. As you can see we were not the only ones:

Here’s our sweet dog Charlie. She is lying in front of the frontdoor and in front of the toilet door, which gives some problems ; )

Here’s our cat Findus, snoozing on the couch.

Here’s Findus’ mother Saba lying on a chair in the kitchen. Don’t you just love this pose ??

I have spent some time cleaning up today and taking down some decorations. I am getting ready for the Winter season. I know it’s a bit early, but when the festivities begin I want to be finished ; )

My book on the bedside table :
I finished the book Cristy and loved it, now I’m reading one of Margit Söderholm’s historic novels about a farmer in the Swedish country in the 19th century. I love these kind of books.

I’m busy working on my sweater and it’s coming along great !!

Have a wonderful day everyone !!
